To the residents of Lawrence Park,

The subject of this article is community in action!  Webster defines community as “a group of people with a common interest living together…” or “a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests and goals”.

The overall success of a community depends on its members.  The more we all put into our community, the more we get out of it.  We all live here; some of us work in this community; our families walk their dogs through the streets of our community; our children go to school and play in the parks of this community; etc.

What does that mean to the average person?  Borrowing a phrase from JFK, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” That may have been said in 1961, but it still rings true today.  What can we all do to make Lawrence Park a better place?

Not too long ago there were teenagers working in the parks, overseeing the younger children doing arts and crafts and playing on the swings and slides.  There was a Neighborhood Watch program, various committees such as Tree, Planning and other such Commissions that served the community, along with people doing fund raising events.

Not to be mistaken, there are still people who graciously offer their time to help better our community in various ways:  crossing guards who protect our children on their way to school; folks that pick-up trash (of their own accord!) weed garden beds, place memorial flags, along with various other Community service projects. To them, a profound Thank You!

If there is some talent you possess or something you would like to see happen that benefits our community, please let us know.  Also, if there is something you are currently doing that benefits our community we would love to hear about it.
