Some projects that require a permit are decks, fences, sheds, carports, detached garages, concrete slabs, demolitions, additions, altering any openings (windows, doors, etc.) or framing (dormers, roof pitch changes, skylights, moving walls, etc.) on any existing buildings. Better to be safe than sorry! Only checks or money orders are accepted as payment for a building permit.
